Explain how a mutated base sequence will result in an inactive enzyme being produced during protein synthesis.

    Mutation of the DNA sequence will lead to a different tertiary structure of an enzyme (active site of an enzyme will have a different shape) and because enzymes are specific means that the substrate will no longer fit the active site and therefore it will not be functional.
