Large pieces of our planet crusts move due to convection currents. Convection, along with conduction and radiation are the types of heat transfer. Convection has the characteristic that can only happen in fluids (liquids and gases). When there is a notable difference between two parts of a fluid, hot fluid rise and cold ones sink, and currents are formed in the fluid.
