Look at the diagram of the synaptic transmission. The receiving dendrite has receptor proteins to bind to the released neurotransmitter molecules. There are several neurotransmitter molecules, of which glutamate is the most common. Use the diagram and the information to discuss the following questions:

How might a synapse be changed to be more efficient in transmissions?

Of what advantage is it to use a relatively small neurotransmitter molecule such as glutamate?

    The relatively small neurotransmitter molecules have a higher stability therefore the neurotransmition of the electrical impulse is more predictable
