Why might scientists want to figure out how to change sexually reproducing plants that are in high demand in agriculture into asexually reproducing plants?

    There are a number of advantages of reproducing these plants asexually. Primarily, asexual reproduction leads to the same genetic make up of the offspring as the parent, meaning the desirable qualities of the parent plant are conserved. Moreover, asexual reproduction is faster than sexual reproduction, meaning the high demand can be met with a high supply.
