    Deborah Brandt is an English professor who proposed the term literacy sponsor. According to her a literacy sponsor is any person who enables, supports, teaches or hinders literacy. The literacy sponsors gain advantages from the success of sponsored. The characteristics of the literacy sponsors are: powerful leaders, knowledgeable and usually wealthy. They offer loyalty, assistance, and influence.
