What is the function of the gap junction within this structure indicated by the red arrow?

    Gap junctions are specialized cells structures that enhance communications between cells. They directly connect the cytoplasm of two cells therefore allowing various molecules, ions, electrical impulses to directly pass through a regulated gate between cells. In this case, they propagate action potentials from cell to cell.
