    The correct answer is stratum functionalis.

    Uterus consists of three layers with distinct structural and functional characteristics. Those are

    · Endometrium-mucosal layer, divided into two layers, the stratum functionalis and stratum basalis;

    · Myometrium-muscularis layer and

    · Perimetrium-serosal layer.

    During the menstrual cycle (when hormone rise and fall) the stratum functionalis sheds whereas the stratum basalis remains relatively constant.
