A major misconception about natural selection is that this mechanism "gives organisms what they want or need so they can adapt to an environment." Explain why this is not correct.

    Natural Selection is the process by which organisms with higher fitness and adaptations better suited to their environment tend to survive, while organisms with unfavorable variations do not. Natural selection works with the traits and adaptations already present in the organism, and simply selects the favorable ones.
