The tsar and tsarina had five children. Did all seven family members have the same mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) ? Give a reason for your answer.

    The mitochondrial DNA examination is used to determine the relationships on the mother's end of the family. The mitochondrial DNA is used in testing as it changes quite less from generation to generation.

    The mitochondrial DNA is passed unchanged from mother to their children, thus, it can be used to determine that who is associated with whom in one line on the mother's side of the family.

    In the given case, six of the family members will share the same mitochondrial DNA, that is, the mother and the five children. Except for the father, who will exhibit his mother's mitochondrial DNA.

    They should all have the same mitochondrial DNA because only the mother can pass that on
