    "Polydipsia"

The word derives from the Greek: "poly" means many, several; and "dipsia" means thirst. The reason why people with diabetes insipidus have polydipsia is that they also have polyuria (to urinate a lot) leading them to the need of replacing the fluids that are being lost.
