As carbon dioxide enters systemic blood, it causes more oxygen to dissociate from hemoglobin (the Haldane effect), which in turn allows more CO2 to combine with hemoglobin and more bicarbonate ions to be generated (the Bohr effect).

    high concentrations of carbon dioxide causes haemoglobin to release some of its oxygen. because carbon dioxide is found in high concentrations in respiring tissues, which need oxygen, the high content of carbon dioxide causes haemoglobin to release the oxygen more readily than normal
