The remainder of the oxygen is carried in the dissolved state in the plasma of the blood.

The majority of the transportation of oxygen in the blood takes place by binding with the protein known as hemoglobin and is carried to the tissues. Although oxygen dissolves in blood, only a small fraction of oxygen is conducted this way, that is, only 1.5 percent of oxygen in the blood is dissolved straight into the blood itself.
