The O blood type is considered to be a universal donor because a person with any blood type can receive it. However, people with the O blood type can receive blood from only those with the same blood type. Why do you think this is so? What blood type would be the universal recipient (meaning the person can receive blood from any blood type) ?

Answer: Type O blood receives and accepts only type O blood. This is because type O does not have any antigens compared to other blood types such A, B and AB.

Explanation: Type AB is the universal recipient since it has an antigen of A, antigen of B since it can recognize blood type with either of the both antigens. Type O is also accepted since it does not have any antigens.

    That's because they lack antigens.

    Explanation:

Antigens are substance which induces an immune response in the body in the production of antibodies.

Type O blood lacks any antigens, and therefore a person with type O blood has A, B, and Rh antibodies, assuming they are type O-negative.

Only AB + blood type can receive blood from every other blood type.
