Mycelium is the structure which is known to be the vegetative part of a fungus. The mycelium consists of thread-like structures which are known as the hyphae. The mycelium allows the fungus to absorb nutrients from the surrounding. The hyphae are structures which secrete enzymes over the food. These enzymes break down the food. After this, the food is absorbed by the mycelium through the processes of diffusion or active transport.
