Mitochondria are organelles in eukaryotic cells enclosed by 2 membranes. The outer membrane encloses the mitochondria while the inner membrane folds and creates structures called cristae. The function of mitochondria is the production of energy in the form of ATP. Also, mitochondria have their own genetic material similar to bacterial genome.
