Physical traits acquired after birth could be given to offspring

    Explanation:

Lamarck proposed the theory of inheritance of acquired characters to explain the process of evolution. He explained that the organisms develop new traits during the lifetime by modification of existing body parts. These new traits are developed due to the "need" posed by surrounding conditions. The acquired traits are inherited to the next generation.

For example, the evolution of long-necked giraffe species occurred when the short-necked giraffes stretched their necks to reach the leaves of the tall trees to feed on them. The acquired trait "long neck" was passed to the future generations leading to evolution of giraffe population with long neck.
