The cytoplasm can be compared to the real world. The function of the cytoplasm is to provide support to the internal organelles and structures of the cell by virtue of it being a medium for their suspension.
The cytoplasm is like soil in real world. Like the cytoplasm, the soil holds things on place. It forms a base for living things such as a living plant with its roots, stem and leaves. The cytoplasm is the base for living organelles.
