    It's caused by the bacterium Anaplasma phagocytophilum found in the blacklegged tick (Ixodes scapularis) and the western blacklegged tick (Ixodes pacificus).

    These bacteria are spread through these tick bites causing anaplasmosis that leads to fever, headache, chills, and muscle aches
