Increased surface area so it was easier to float

The answer is A because the boat is being spread out which increases the total amount of space, or volume. The density is decreasing because the same amount of clay is being spread out over a wider surface. (Density is mass/volume and the mass is still the same but the volume has become smaller so that means that the density is also smaller)
