If a solution surrounding a cell is hypotonic relative to the inside of the cell, how will water move?

    A hypotonic solution means the solution has a higher water potential comparing the the cell.

    In this case, the water molecules will move from the solution to the cell cytoplasm, due to the rule of osmosis.

    Osmosis will always be the flow of water molecules from a region of higher water potential to a region of lower water potential, through a semi permeable membrane which is the cell membrane in this case.

    In addition, if the cell is animal cell, it may burst since it gained so much water. But this won't happen in plant cells since it has a cell wall.
