    Sugar is a type of carbohydrate naturally contained in foods, but it can also be added during food processing. Taking too much sugar can lead to serious health problems, our bodies need a minimal amount every day to keep working.

    We consume sugar in many different ways, but in the end, our bodies turn almost all the sugar we eat into glucose - also known as "glucose". Glucose is the primary sugar that our body uses to generate energy.

    Our internal sugar processing system begins in the mouth, where saliva begins to degrade food to even simpler molecules. From there, the food travels to the stomach, where gastric juices continue to digest carbohydrates into smaller sugar molecules. Finally, sugar molecules move into the small intestine, where most are transformed into glucose, absorbed into our bloodstream and transported throughout the body to provide energy.

    Carbohydrates go through a slower process to power cells, so we can conclude that sugar is a "fast energy" compared to carbohydrates.
