    The four major classes of biological macromolecules are carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids.

    Explanation:

    1) Carbohydrates contain three elements; carbon, hydrogen and oxygen in ratio 1:2:1. Monosaccharides - the simplest form of carbohydrates, contains one sugar example is glucose.

    2) Lipids are made up of four major components: fatty acids, a glycerol component, and both a phosphate group and a polar molecule.

    3) Proteins are made up of different arrangements of the same 20 kinds of amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks that make up proteins, which consists of a central carbon atom bonded to an amino group (-NH2), a carboxyl group (-COOH), and a hydrogen atom.

    4) Nucleic acids are made up of three components: a purine or pyrimidine nitrogenous base, a pentose sugar, and a phosphate group. The substructure consisting of a nitrogenous base and a sugar molecule is called a nucleoside.
