If the platelet count is 140,000 cell / mm³ then we are suffering from thrombocytopenia and our body has a risk of suffering excessive bleeding. This is because platelets are blood cells that are responsible for blood clotting. A lower platelet count will hinder proper clotting of blood and result in excessive bleeding.

    Explanation:

Platelets are one of the cellular components of blood. These are devoid of nucleus. These are responsible for clotting of blood by forming platelet plug. The lower and upper limit of platelet count is 150000 cell/mm³of blood and 400000 cell/mm³ of blood respectively. A condition in which platelet count below 150000 cell/mm³ is called thrompocytopenia. A condition in which platelet count higher that 450000 cell/mm³ is called thrombocytosis.
