Millions of sperm cells are produced by the male but only one makes it down to where gametogenesis wll occur as others dies along the movement while there would be a barrier bound once the first sperm cell enters the ovum for mating to occur, only one egg is required of a female to fertilize but double fertilization may occur which means the egg fertilizes a sperm twice or thrice which result in twin, triplet e. t. c
