Generally forensic anthropologist use biological profile from bone examination to give clues about the identity of victim, duration of crime, and the position of the victim and history of violence in the victim.

Thus comparison of irregular shape of the sternum may indicate history of violence in the victim, or even the actual cause of the incident, or the positioning.

it can also give a clue for investigating the crime. deviation from the normal shape of the sternum may be an indication of trauma at the region.

Besides the irregularity in sternum shape may also give a clue about the positioning of the body of the victim, thus probably the victim fell face-down, which may also add to clue for the investigation.
