A student was given a task to observe a bacterial specimen made from dilute yoghurt and sketch the shape of bacteria seen. He drew circular shapes. What kind of bacteria could these be? Cocci Bacilli Spirilla

    The answer is cocci.

    There are three basic types of the shape of bacteria:

    - Cocci - spheres,

    - Bacilli - rods,

    - Spirilla - spirals.

    If a student drew a circular shape, that probably represented sphere. Therefore, the shape of seen bacteria was spherical which suggests that the bacteria must be cocci.
