The HIV virus weakens the body's natural immunity as it is an auto-immune disease. This allows diseases and infections to take hold in an HIV positive person. Some of these diseases and infections are life threatening and some are not. Examples of these diseases and infections are pneumonia, Tuberculosis, kidney disease, Candida or thrush, meningitis, and Herpes. An HIV positive person is also susceptible to specific forms of cancer, such as Lymphomas or cancer of the Lymphatic system and Kaposi's Sarcoma.
