entical springs, each with stiffness 350 N/m, are connected in parallel (that is, side by side) to hold up a heavy weight. If these springs were replaced by an equivalent single spring, what should be the stiffness of this single spring?

    When two springs of stiffness constant K₁ and K₂ are used in parallel, their equivalent spring constant will be K₁ + K₂

    In the present case K₁ = K₂ = 350 N/m

    Equivalent K = K₁ + K₂

    = 2 X 350

    = 700 N/m
