Group 3A are comprised of Boron (B), Aluminum (Al), Gallium (Ga), Indium (In), and Thallium (Tl). Groups run vertical, while periods run horizontally.

    Characteristics of this group:

    1. Group 3A has 3 valence electrons, which means when these elements combine to form compounds, they give away electrons to satisfy the octet rule (to become like the closest noble gas, electrons want to have full valence shell).

    2. Most of these atoms form ionic bonds, but can sometimes form covalent bonds.

    3. Most of these atoms lose the valence electrons and become cations, which are ions with positive valence shell.
