What mass in grams of Sic is formed from the complete reaction of 2 mol of carbon?

    Explanation:

    The silicium carbide is formed according to the reaction of Carbon and silicium dioxide. We also can produce carbon monoxide at the reaction.

    The equation is:

    SiO₂ + 3C → SiC + 2CO

    According to the stoichiometry we can prodouce 1 mol of silicium carbide, from 3 moles of carbon so we may propose this rule of three:

    3 moles of C can produce 1 mol of SiC

    Then 2 moles of C, will produce (2. 1) / 3 = 0.666 moles of SiC

    We conver the moles to mass (mol. molar mass) =

    0.666 mol. 40.1 g / 1 mol = 26.7 g
