The second step is to calculate the mass of a given element ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3). We will calculate the masses of all three elements. The molar mass of each element is given below: molar mass of N: 14.0 g/mol molar mass of H: 1.0 g/mol molar mass of O: 16.0 g/mol

Identify the number of moles of each element present in one mole of NH4NO3.

# moles N:

# moles H:

# moles O:

There is two nitrogen atoms, four hydrogen atoms and three oxygen atoms in one molecule of ammonium nitrate.

    1) n (N) : n (NH₄NO₃) = 2 : 1.

    n (N) : 1 mol = 2 : 1.

    n (N) = 2 mol.

    2) n (H) : n (NH₄NO₃) = 4 : 1.

    n (H) = 4 mol.

    3) n (O) : n (NH₄NO₃) = 3 : 1.

    n (O) = 3 mol.
