Benzene is an aromatic hydrocarbon with 6 carbon atoms in its structure. Carbon has three naturally occurring isotopes; carbon 12, 13 and 14. Carbon 12 is the most abundant by percentage. Ninety-nine percent of all carbon is carbon twelve. Therefore the probability that 4 carbon 13 atoms will be adjacent to each other is less than 1%.
