If a 2.45 GHz microwave signal is somehow radiating from your microwave oven, that is a very dangerous situation and you should have it fixed or replaced immediately. A 1000 Watt microwave oven radiating energy into the local environment can, depending on conditions, cause you to lose consciousness in about 12 to 15 minutes of exposure at a distance of around 10 feet. However, RF power falls off sharply at the rate of the inverse-square law. The inverse-square-law says that power output will decrease as the square of the distance from the oven (transmitter). For example, a 1000 Watt microwave oven will be radiating about 100 Watts at a distance of 9 feet from the oven, or about 55 Watts at 18 feet from the oven, and so on.
