Elements that form ionic bonds generally have how many valence electrons?

    Ionic bonds are formed by sharing of electrons between a metal and a non metal atom. metal atom forms cation as it will lose electrons so it generally has one or two. non metal form anion as they gain electrons so they generally have seven or six electrons.
