True or False. Osmosis is the net movement of water across a semipermeable membrane from an area of lower solute concentration to an area of higher solute concentration. The water will continue to move across the semipermeable membrane as the system attempts to reach equilibrium, where both solutions have the same concentration.

Answer: The given statement is true.

    Explanation:

Osmosis is defined as the process in which molecules of a solvent tend to move through a semipermeable membrane from a region of low concentration solution to a region of more concentrated solution.

For example: When a blood cell is placed in a beaker filled with a concentrated salt solution, the solution will be called as hypertonic solution as the concentration of solution will be more as compared to concentration of blood cell and thus the solvent will move from blood cell to the concentrated salt solution untill both solutions have the same concentration.

Thus the given statement is true.
