What part of the atom undergoes change during radioactive decay

    The answer is the nucleus. An unstable nucleus transforms into more stable nucleus by emission of ionized particle in a radioactive decay. The atomic number of a nucleus is reduced by two in alpha decay while beta decay involves the release of electron from the nucleus.
