In aldehydes and ketones, the electropositive carbon atomas has a much greater attraction for the bonding electron pairs than does the oxygen atom?

    The carbon-to-oxygen double bond in the aldehydes is quite polar in nature. The oxygen atom which is electronegative in nature has much greater attraction for bonding electron pairs than carbon atom.

    Thus, carbon atom has partial positive charge while oxygen atom has partial negative charge.

    Thus the the electropositive carbon atom has much greater attraction for bonding electron pairs than oxygen atom.
