2. Using Charles's Law solve the following: A sample of helium has a volume of 125 L at a temperature of 127  C, if the volume is decreased to 85.0 L what is the resulting temperature considering pressure does not change.

    V1 = 125L

    T1 = 127°C = (127 + 273.15) k = 400.15

    V2 = 85L

    T2 = ?

    According to Charles law, the volume of a fixed mass of gas is directly proportional to its temperature provided that pressure remains constant.

    V = kT, k = V / T (where k = constant)

    V1 / T1 = V2 / T2

    125 / 400.15 = 85 / T2

    400.15 * 85 = 125 * T2

    34012.75 = 125T2

    T2 = 34012.75 / 125

    T2 = 272.102K

    The resulting temperature is 272.102K
