What characteristic/s makes carbon significant in the chemistry of living organisms?

    Carbon is the most significant element for the existence of life on earth.

    The characteristics of carbon, that makes it chemical basis for all living beings are as follows:

    Carbon has four valence electrons and can form single, double and triple bonds.

    it forms bonds easily with hydrogen, hydrogen and nitrogen.

    Carbon also forms bond with phosphorous and sulfur and form biochemical compounds such as carbohydrate, fats and protein that are basis of life.
