Where does the term carbohydrate come from?

    Carbohydrates are made of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, all in a constant 1:2:1 ratio.

    Hence the name Carbo (carbon) hydra (hydrogen) and the ending 'ate' refers to oxygen.
