There are three types of solutions, namely hypotonic, isotonic and hypertonic. Hypotonic solution is a solution with more solvent than solute while an isotonic solution has the same level of solvents and solutes and a hyperonic solution has more solute than the solvent. In this case the cell with 1% concentration placed in a 5% salt solution, the cell will loose water osmotically and shrink because the salt solution is hypertonic to the cell.
