Believing that 70% of her body is composed of water, and 20% is composed of denser materials (bones, teeth, etc.) with a specific gravity of 1.25, what is the specific gravity of the remaining 10% of her body/internal composition? (Specific gravity is just the ratio of density of a material to water. Thus, a specific gravity of 1.25 corresponds to a density of? m? = 1.25?.)

    s = 0.5

    Explanation:

    We know that specific gravity of water is 1.

    Mass = Density x Volume

    70% of her body is composed of water, it means that it have

    m₁ = 70 x 1 = 70

    20% is composed of denser materials with a specific gravity of 1.25

    m ₂ = 20 x 1.25 = 25

    Lets take remaining 10 % have 's' specific gravity

    m₃ = 10 x s

    So

    100 = m₁ + m ₂ + m₃

    100 = 70 + 25 + 10 s

    100 - 95 = 10 s

    s = 0.5
