Interstitial diffusion mechanism is a fast diffusion mechanism of atoms due to weaker bonding of surrounding atoms and more interstitial sites than vacancy sites to jump to.

    Explanation:

Interstitial diffusion is a type of diffusion mechanism which is the migration of atoms from a lattice site to a lattice site. Two conditions must be met for diffusion namely there must be an empty adjacent site and the atom must have sufficient energy to break bonds with neighboring atoms and causing lattice distortion during displacement.

You get two types of diffusion mechanism namely vacancy and interstitial.

Vacancy diffusion mechanism is the direction flow of atoms opposite the vacancy flow direction.

Interstitial diffusion mechanism is a faster diffusion mechanism of atoms than vacancy diffusion due to weaker bonding of surrounding atoms and more interstitial sites than vacancy sites to jump to.
