What is the gear ratio required to drive a compressor at 150 cycles per second using a turbine that turns at 18,000 rpms?

    first convert speed of compressor to rpms

    Compressor speed = w1 = 150 cycles/s = 150 * 60 = 9000 rpms

    Speed of turbine = w2 = 18000 rpms

    gear ratio = N2/N1 = w1/w2

    gear ratio = 9000/18000

    gear ratio = 1/2

    gear ratio = 1:2
