A sacrifice is meant to be just that, a sacrifice. For a person to sacrifice something, they must be giving up something that they really want, something that has value. When someone is said to have paid the ultimate sacrifice, it means that they have paid for something with their life. This is often attributed to soldiers sacrificing their lives for the good of the country. In this passage, the Hindus are sacrificing five ingredients: milk, cheese, butter, honey, and sugar cane. In order for these ingredients to be worthy of sacrifice they must hold value to the Hindu people.
