erosion is any of the following = wind, water, and ice. It damages soil by basically moving it out of its place by either blowing it out of the way, washing it away, or freezing it causing the nutrients to break apart and possibly ruining its potential for sustaining plant life. Nutrient depletion basically means that the soil has no more nutrients at all which defeats the purpose of having soil since it should have a certain amount of nutrients for the plants to survive. Desertification is when the soil is in a desert like state where it gains no water and retains no nutrients for any plants to thrive on.

Doesn't let plants grow well, or let them grow at all.
