Read this passage from the online article "Top 10 Reasons Why Everyone Is Doing Yoga" by Kathryn Livingston. What type of propaganda is the author using? Why are so many people doing yoga these days? There must be more to it than endorphins; there has to be a deeper reason why 20 million plus Americans have fallen in love with this venerable practice. Here is my top ten list - and if you're a yogi, I'm sure you can think of more.

The answer is a combination of Bandwagon, emotional words and testimonial.

    Explanation:

Bandwagon because its purpose is to persuade people to do "something" because other people are doing it. The fact that it mentions ... 20 million-plus Americans have fallen in love with ... is a clear example of the bandwagon.

Emotional words - if we keep reading the article we will find words like; bliss, venerable, retreat for the soul, chill, etc. Those words are used to evoke positive feelings towards the product or service in the potential clients to create a need for the product/service.

Testimonial - The writer of the article is not a common person but is a Yogini (authentic practitioner of yoga) who has written books about it, thus she might be well-known among yogis. Even if the rest of the people have not heard of her, they are likely to acknowledge that she is an important person in the yoga world and that would add authenticity to its message. (she knows what she is talking about and it is trustworthy).

    1. Bandwagon Propoganda is the propaganda that is used.

She says that there are 20 million plus Americans who have "fallen in love" with yoga. Since she talks about so many people doing yoga, she's trying to play into people's desire to fit in. It's almost as if she's saying if you're not one of the 20 million people you don't fit in.

    2. for the endorphins

In the passage from the question she states that people must be doing yoga for more reasons than the endorphins which is to say that the endorphins are one reason people may do yoga. The other 10 reasons are to quiet the mind, connect with our inner voice, make the body look and feel good, give the chance to be uncool, gain lessons that can be used off the yoga mat, be spiritual, experience Savasana.
