In which sentence does the italicized adjective have a largely denotative meaning? Hugh's room was always shipshape. Hugh's room was always uncluttered. Hugh's room was always tip-top. Hugh's room was always pristine.

    I think the answer is - Hugh's room was always uncluttered. Because here 'uncluttered' is the only word that is used in its primary meaning, something which is not cluttered. Whereas the other words, 'shipshape', 'tip-top', and 'pristine' aren't really words that would be used for describing a room in their primary meaning.
