By the end of their time in the Annexe, Peter Van Daan changed in Anne's eyes because A.) He has become more open, earning Anne's affection.

Anne was able to establish a friendship with Peter. This was because they lived in closed proximity and both are lonely for companionship. However, Anne soon realized that the Peter she was infatuated with was not the real Peter. The attributes she found on him were merely products of her wishful thinking. In the end, she was the one who distanced herself from Peter.
