Stupid but on the contrary foolishly good. As he and Juliet had secretly wed, not all of but each opposing family knew of this. While he had tried to make amends and prevent any further accommodations with Tybalt due to his "love" for Juliet and the morals he must obtain being married, it was inevitable due to the mutual hatred between the families. Once Tybalt kills Mercutio, anger overwhelms Romeo as he seeks vengeance. Altogether his actions were blind, and his attempt for peace was nothing but silly as the hatred between the families remained while the secret love between Romeo and Juliet carried on.
